Snowboards

If you want to find out the best snowboard for you, you will have to know your correct weight, height, feet size and your ability & style and this will tell you what board width and length you will need.

Width is normally determined by your feet size, small feet – narrow board and wide feet – wide board.

Weight its very important you give it correctly, as heavier riders should have a stiffer flex and lighter riders should have a softer flex.

Length-if you stand your snowboard up it should be between your chin and nose.

Snowboarding Boots

Make sure you really take your time when choosing yours as it is so vital you get them right for comfort, performance and to stop injuries.

There are many types out there now, don’t go for the latest one out or what your friends tell you, make sure you get a pair that fit properly, not too big, oversized boots promote fatigue or too tight they will restrict your performance . Your heels must feel securely in place and not lift out when you do a heel lift. They must also match your skill level. Once you do get them make sure you break into them properly before you go on your holiday.

SKI CLOTHING & ACCESSORIES

You are advised to dress in layers, as this way you can regulate your body temperature.

Try to wear man made fibres as they are more comfortable next to the skin, avoid cotton which traps moisture.

You eyes should be protected from the strong glare of the sun at all times. You should have good quality sunglasses/goggles with a 100% uv protection. Make sure they fit snugly so they don’t fall off when skiing.

Make sure you always have a hat with you, as most heat is lost through your head. The hat will also protect your ears, as they are prone to frostbite. You should consider wearing a protective helmet too, especially children and some parts of France this is compulsory.

Jackets – should be made of waterproof/breathable material ideally with a hood and pockets so you can keep your money etc., unless you are going to use a bum bag. Make sure there is room enough for you to wear other layers underneath.

Trousers/Salopettes – should also be made of breathable/waterproof material and you should allow a couple of inches in each leg as they have to go over thermal base layers if too cold and ski/board boots.

Gloves-best to buy waterproof/breathable material ones and they need to go over and cover your cuffs. Snowboarders are best with ones that have reinforced fingers and palms.

Socks- recommend you get the ones that come up to your knees and the ski seamless tube ones are the best.

Boots – make sure they fit properly and are comfotable.

Make sure you have a sunscreen, a high factor one, 20-25 as the sun rays reflected on the snow can be very strong. Use a lip balm/cream as the wind and sun can cause your lips to crack or get cold sores if you are prone to them.

Wrist injuries are quite common with Snowboarders, it is best to wear wristbands to help prevent any injury.
